But it also means fields, plantations, garden, homes, and towns. This name was chosen because the company’s activities have a positive impact not only on local farmers, but also on the local community and on the Ugandan economy.

Mashamba benefits from the productive and fertile lands of Uganda to cultivate, year-round, tropical fruits and vegetables and make these available to the European palate. Every step of the production process is carefully monitored directly by Mashamba, from the planting of the seeds in the fields to the delivery at points of sales in the European markets. This production system, with Mashamba’s constant presence and vigilance in all processes, guarantees that the fruits and vegetables reaching the European markets are of the highest quality, freshness, and flavor.

Mashamba’s fruits and vegetables are transported to Europe aboard refrigerated airplanes and remain cool from the time the small farmers sell their produce to Mashamba’s packaging facilities in the Ugandan capital of Kampala until the time they reach the European consumer. Mashamba guarantees that its fruits and vegetables reach the European markets in less than 36 hours from the time they were culled in the fields of Uganda, assuring the highest degree of freshness and quality.

Mashamba is a mark of reference in Ugandan society, offering direct stable employment to approximately 150 families – both employees of the company and affiliated small farmers. In 2006, Mashamba was recognized by the Government of Uganda as the best exporting company in the country.

Mashamba has two farms of its own, in which it cultivates its fruits and vegetables, and offers advice and technical assistance to affiliated small farmers who form part of the company’s supply network. Mashamba’s investment in Uganda has offered stable employment to farmers in a sector where there income and employment are otherwise tenuous.
