INDEPENDENT PRODUCERS

Mashamba, in addition to its three farms, offers advice and technical assistance to affiliated small farmers who form part of the company’s supply network.

Mashamba’s investment in Uganda has offered stable employment to farmers in a sector where there income and employment are otherwise tenuous.

QUALITY CONTROL

To assure that Mashamba’s fruits and vegetables will be of the highest quality, Mashamba provides seeds freely and directly to its affiliated independent farmers. In this way, Mashamba has full control of the source and quality of its produce.

When the farmers sell their harvest at Mashamba’s central offices, the fruits and vegetables are classified according to their size, texture, and ripeness. The fruits and vegetables must then pass quality controls before being carefully packaged and distributed. The manual selection and classification of the produce is done by Mashamba’s own experts and guarantees the highest levels of quality for Mashamba’s clients.

BUYING SYSTEM

Each day, affiliated local farmers arrive with their produce at Mashamba’s central office in Kampala. On foot, by bicycle, or by car, the families with their produce are able to make a direct and immediate sale to Mashamba. The company pays all its suppliers immediately, which offers them stability and economic security, conditions which are not always common in their country.
