ICE-MARK AFRICA SPONSORES THE „LADIES 7‘S WORLD CUP QUALIFYING EVENT“ IN UGANDA

The two companies unveiled sponsorship worth Shs25m in cash at a press gathering held at the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) early in September.

This isn‘t the first time the two companies have shown such generosity but they‘ve been sponsoring the hard-working rugby ladies for five years now and they were determined to make sure that the women’s team qualified for the World Cup finals.

The qualifying event was held on September 20-21 at Kyadondo Rugby Football Club in Uganda which Uganda hosted. There the ladies wrestled nine other teams for a place in the maiden Women’s 7s RWC.

The Lady Cranes team of 22 players underwent hard training before the competition under Coach David Mutaka. Together they seem to have done a great job as the ladies won the silver, loosing only to South Africa in the final, and will indeed participate in the World Cup finals which are to be held in Dubai in March 2009. The Lady Cranes will be the first national team of Uganda to participate in a world cup of teams.
